EMPLOYMENT
HISTORY:
|
April 1999 to Dec 2002
SEOS Displays Ltd, Burgess Hill,
West Sussex
Position: Network & Data
Communications Engineer
Responsible for:
Daily backup of all mission critical data using ArcServeIt (last
ver. 2000), network administration and configuration, Microsoft
Desktop and in house application support for both the main and
sister sites- total of 200 users, a duty that involves a knowledge
of company policies relating to software deployment, allocation of
hardware, and a good temperament for dealing with troublesome
situations.
Project managed the
introduction and eventual deployment of
"Video-Conferencing"
using Polycom ViewStations to three sites (two in the US); Project
managed the introduction of a "Help-Desk" system to help manage all
IT support queries. The database is a bespoke Microsoft Access
product. This solution was settled upon after several “packaged”
products failed to meet requirements; Evaluated the migration to
Windows 2000 by assessing the compatibility with all in-house
software and hardware. Wrote a complete document on the
introduction of Storage Area Networks as a solution to the lack of
storage problem. This solution took advantage of external sources
to provide full support and would fully integrate into the existing
infrastructure.
Further developed a
“mock” Active Directory based Windows 2000 Domain to run alongside
the existing NT4 Domain. From this Domain, NT4 and Exchange 5.5
migration was evaluated for compatibility and flawless integration.
The domain was fully DNS/DHCP enadled to help lift the burden on the
NT4 domain. At the time of departure this “mock” domain was still
being used to help IT staff familiarise themselves with Active
Directory. Initiated a "Staff IT Handbook". Built and deployed
company's first OS based firewall (using 2000 Server and Wingate).
Top
Helped to establish
company’s WAN policy and was elemental in the IT partner selection
for deployment of WAN. Oversaw the successfully setup Windows
Terminal Server on NT4 Server for use with bespoke VPN solution…this
preceded the use of Citrix. I worked with senior staff to automate
rollout of McAfee anti-virus updates, followed by assisting in the
evaluation of a new network-wide replacement. Therefore gaining
experience with Sophos, Panda and Trend Micro. Pushed for the
full remote administration of the network to allow 24Hr support
using dial-up and PCAnywhere.
Additional
Knowledge/experience:
Installation and configuration of Win9x, Workstation 4.0, Win 2K
Pro, NT Server and 2000 Server including Active Directory. Build
for various uses- standalone 2000 server. Resolving WINS, DNS and
DHCP problems. Domain and group security in both NT4 and
2000 Server; Resolved Millennium Bug problems; Assist with
implementation of IIS for company intranet. Use and administration
of Back Office products including MS Exchange Administrator &
Client, NT Mail and Terminal Server, MDaemon, MailScan, Wingate, VPN,
WAN (leased lines/ISDN) and LAN configuration and analysis, CAT5
cabling, hubs, routers, switches, Giga-bit (HP Procurve). Support
for company ERP software –
Visibility, based on an
Oracle database giving some SQL exposure.
Secondary
responsibility:
included day-to-day supervising of the Meridian Options 51
telephone exchange involving reprogramming and maintenance- call
forwarding, hunt groups, and pick up groups and more. Options 51
trained by MOSS telecomms.
Inter-departmental work:
Research the use of PCAnywhere for use with remote diagnostics
and customer support for company products. Support with other
bespoke databases.
